How to help your pet survive the summer?

When thermometers exceed 30 ∘ C , we seek shade and cold drinks. However, our four-legged friends have significantly less ability to naturally regulate their body temperature – dogs cool themselves primarily by panting, while cats hide in cooler corners. Puppies, seniors , and brachycephalic breeds (pugs, bulldogs, and Persian cats) require special care during this period.

Together with the salon Maxi Zoo in Galeria Młociny We have prepared for you a set of the most important rules that will help your pets survive the heat wave safely.

💧 1. Constant access to fresh water is essential

Adequate hydration is an absolute priority. In hot weather, the water in the bowl should be changed several times a day to keep it pleasantly cool.

• Tip for dog owners: You can add a few ice cubes to the bowl.

• Tip for cat owners: If your cat is reluctant to drink, install a special fountain (the movement of the water encourages cats to drink) or add a little water to wet food.

☀️ 2. Safe walks only at the right time

Put aside long hikes, runs, bike rides, or workouts in the sun. On hot days, take your dog for a longer walk early in the morning or late in the evening when the air is crisp.

Important: Before going for a walk, touch the asphalt or sidewalk with your hand and hold it there for 5 seconds. If the ground burns your hand, it will be like a hot frying pan for your dog's delicate paws! Choose walks on grass and in shaded parks.

🧊 3. Cooling Accessories – Your Summer Allies

🚨 4. How to recognize overheating (heat stroke)?

Be vigilant and observe your pet's behavior. Symptoms that should immediately raise your concern include: very loud and rapid panting, excessive drooling, glassy eyes, apathy, unresponsiveness to calls, staggering, or blue gums. In such cases, immediately move your pet to a cool place, wrap its paws and belly in damp (but not icy!) towels, and contact your veterinarian immediately.

Never, under any circumstances, leave your pet alone in a closed car – even for a minute, even with the window cracked! The interior of a car in full sun heats up to several dozen degrees in the blink of an eye, becoming a death trap.
